Objective(s): To conduct a comprehensive literature review of the mining- and environment-related materials held at the Déline Land Corporation; and to assist in the creation of a real archive to be housed in the Déline Knowledge Center.
Project Description: The major objective of this proposed 2015 fieldwork is twofold. Firstly, the principle investigator (PI) aims to conduct a comprehensive literature review of the mining- and environment-related materials held at the Déline Land Corporation in order to enrich their understanding of this history as it is understood by the community. Secondly, the PI wants to assist in the creation of a real archive out of these materials, to be housed in the Déline Knowledge Center. The method by which the PI will undertake the literature review is through simple reading and note-taking. The PI will likely compile annotations to add to the catalog of materials for the archive. The methods by which the PI will undertake building the archive are: to construct a catalog of all the materials held in the archive (a list of works with metadata); to digitize materials and save them in a searchable format; to create a searchable database from the catalog; and to physically assist in organizing materials into files, boxes, etc. This particular research license is for fieldwork consisting of archival research. The archive the principle investigator wishes to work with is under construction, and this work will contribute to its creation by cataloging and organizing its holdings. This archive will be of significant educational, cultural, and potentially economic value to the community. The results of these findings are primarily for the community of Déline and the catalogs, lists, database, annotated bibliographies, and any other works will be left with the community in hard copy and/or digital forms. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from July 27, 2015 to August 20, 2015.
