Objective(s): To study changes to the Porcupine Caribou migration route and the effects of increased hunting through interviews with Elders and traditional harvesters using the Dempster Highway.

Project Description: The objective is to study the changes to the Porcupine Caribou migration route and the effects of increased hunting using the Dempster Highway (located in the NT and YT). The Principal Investigator will video record interviews with Elders and traditional harvesters in Fort McPherson. Interviewees will be ask about how their hunting skills, locations and methods have changed over the past 30 years. Responses will be graphed, interpreted and presented as a technical report. Through this research the PI will stimulating community discussion on the changing migration route of the Porcupine Caribou. This study will produce a technical report and will be presented to the communities in an open house format. Copies of the report will be provided to the local renewable resources council. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from March 3, 2015 to December 31, 2015.
