Project Description: The objective of this study is to discern whether the norms associated with the test currently being used accurately depict the population being served and to provide information for future study of language profiles of Inuvialuktun and Gwich'in. The project team will provide information on the project to parents and schools, and obtain consent from parents/guardians who are interested in participating. To obtain data, each student in kindergarten in the selected communities for which consent is obtained will complete the Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals (CELF)-Preschool 2 (P2). This data will then be analyzed. Student identifiers will not be included in analysis, and students will randomly be assigned a number. The NWT community participants will benefit from this study with an increased awareness and understanding of the interpretation of assessment tool results and its potential impact on client care. A summary of findings will be sent to the parents/guardians of subjects in the study. A summary will also be sent to the schools. Summary information will also be available by contacting the researchers of the study directly. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from March 27, 2012 to June 31, 2012.
