Objective(s): To find out when, what, historical background, and animals are harvested at Husky Lakes camp/cabin area; and to explore how the Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk All-Weather Highway affects their camp/cabin locations.
Project Description: This research project is a part of a student project under the Aurora College Environment and Natural Resources Training Program (ENRTP). The objective of this project is to find out when, what, historical background, and animals harvested at Husky Lakes camp/cabin area, and to ask how would the Inuvik to Tuk All-Weather Highway affects their camp/cabin locations. Five survey questions will be asked of all camp/cabin owners. The principal investigator (PI) will interview all camp/cabin owners in their home. The researcher will provide maps of the proposed highway and the location of camp/cabins. Also, the PI will drive to Husky Lakes with skidoo and conduct any interviews, and providing opportunity for photos. At the end of the study, the data will be stored electronically and in hard copy at my residence. If requested, the data will be made available to the Hunters and Trappers Committees in either Inuvik or Tuktoyaktuk. The PI will present the technical report at the end of April 2012 to the Environment and Natural Resources Technology Program (and friends/colleagues) at Aurora College in Inuvik, NT. The PI will send copies of the Technical Report to the following organizations: • Inuvialuit Community Development Division • Inuvik Community Corporation • Inuvik Hunters and Trappers Committee • Tuktoyaktuk Community Corporation • Tuktoyaktuk Hunters and Trappers Committee All camp/cabin owners will receive a copy if requested. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from January 16, 2012 to June 16, 2012.
