Objective(s): To identify, explore, and examine the community engagement approach of Avalon Rare Metals Inc. as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility strategy, at their Thor Lake Nechalacho Mine project in the Northwest Territories.
Project Description: The objective of this study is to identify, explore, and examine the community engagement approach of Avalon Rare Metals Inc. as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility strategy, at their Thor Lake Nechalacho Mine project in the Northwest Territories. The fieldwork will consist of semi-structured interviews in an effort to elicit responses concerning the community engagement practices of Avalon Rare Metals. Enhance understanding of community perspectives regarding Avalon’s approach to community engagement as part of Avalon’s CSR approach through a multi-perspective collaborative case study. Results will be provided to subject communities in written form, and, if possible, in oral form if we are invited back in early 2012. Additionally, any interested parties are welcome to contact the principal investigator, Dr. Kernaghan Webb, for information pertaining to the result of this study. It is hoped that the results will be presented at an academic conference or workshop, and published in at least one peer-reviewed journal. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012.
