Project Description: The objective of this study is to conduct a site investigation of the Outpost Island Mine, to further determine current environmental and physical conditions. This will include the identification and quantification of environmental impacts in soil, sediment, surface water and groundwater, and the identification of any hazardous or non-hazardous materials left on site. The research team will be staying in Yellowknife and visit the site daily. All field equipment will be cleaned prior to arrival on site. All equipment brought on site will be removed after completion of the field work. The following sampling will be conducted: Soil Samples, Sediment Sampling, Sediment Coring, Surface Water Sampling, Groundwater Sampling (installation of monitoring wells), Waste Rock and Tailings, Drum Contents, Site Survey, Designated Substance Survey (inventory of site waste), Geophysical Survey (metal detection system / buried waste), and Vegetation Sampling. The results of this study will be incorporated into INACs consultation process with local community groups. A summary and copy of the final report will be sent to the Aurora Research Institute upon completion of the project. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from August 04 to 07, 2009, at the Outpost Island Mine site (Outpost Island East and West, east arm of Great Slave Lake, 88 km southeast of Yellowknife - Lat: 61.73, Long: 113.45).
