Objective(s): To determine a general inventory of the physical features of the proposed project site, focusing primarily on the terrain and vegetation.

Project Description: The objective of the study under this licence is to determine a general inventory of the physical features of the proposed project site, focusing primarily on the terrain and vegetation. The Government of the Northwest Territories, Department of Transportation, Airports Division is looking to extend the length of the existing runway at its Inuvik Airport from 6,000 ft. to 9,000 ft. It is currently the intent to extend the runway along one end of the existing runway. This project is funded in part by the federal Department of National Defence, and therefore requires that an Environmental Assessment screening report be submitted prior to any development activities. This is pursuant to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA). The environmental assessment may include a site visit, primarily for an observation of the terrain, vegetation and wildlife located at the proposed project site. Dillon Consulting Limited has been hired as the consultant responsible for conducting the environmental assessment. Methodology of the project will be: visual observation and written recording of findings at the proposed project site. It is planned that the site visit and study will be limited to only one (1) day. Site researcher will be accompanied by a member of the airport staff. Results of this study will be communicated to the public through the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry (website: http://www.ceaa.gc.ca/050/index_e.cfm). Results can also be distributed by letter correspondence to any interested parties, including local communities and other relevant governmental and non-governmental agencies. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted between July 29 and August 31, 2009, at the Inuvik (Mike Zubko) Airport, located 12.0 km east of the Town of Inuvik.
