Project Description: This licence is being issued for the scientific research application No.1095. The objective of this research is to obtain specimens of the major plant species comprising the plant communities found in the northwestern Northwest Territories, especially those riparian ones not found in the adjacent Yukon Territory. The researchers will employ standard botanical field techniques and equipment, i.e. pressing and drying most specimens in plant presses (some lichens will be collected in boxes). They will record all collections in a field notebook giving the preliminary identification, location (as precise as possible), habitat, associated species, habit (tree, shrub, herb -with size if entire plant not collected), date, collectors, and collection number. While in the NWT, the researchers will use local support services (gas, food, lodging, campgrounds), transportation (canoe/kayak rental), advice on good areas to botanize, purchase of local maps, guidebooks, etc. After returning home, data or plant specimens will be sent back to ARI and/or communities. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted on Crown lands along Dempster Highway, nearby trails, waterways around Inuvik, possibly also coast at Tuktoyatuk (not in Pingo Canadian Landmark, on private lands, or in any area with special conservatin status) from July 23 to 27, 2009.
