Objective(s): The objective of this research is to establish the oral health status of the average Inuk which will be directly comparable to the oral health status of the average Canadian.

Project Description: The objective of this research is to establish the oral health status of the average Inuk which will be directly comparable to the oral health status of the average Canadian. The survey team, comprised of a dentist examiner(s) and clinic coordinator(s) will visit Tuktoyaktuk for approximately 2 weeks in length. Potential participants will be identified then randomly selected from the list. Participation will by consent only. Consent may be withdrawn by the individual at any time during data collection. The researchers will do an assessment, including a physical examination, of participant’s oral health. Information including: age, sex, weight, tooth health, decay extent and access to dental care will be asked and recorded in a formal interview process. At the end of their survey examination, the participants can discuss their own oral health status with the survey dentist. No treatment will be provided. The fieldwork for this study will take place from October 29 to December 31, 2008 in Tuktoyaktuk.
