Project Description: This licence is issued for scientific research application #198. The objective of this research is to investigate how non-aboriginal residents of the NWT acquire northern identities and how it impacts their participation in resource development consultations or decisions. This will include exploring how they personally identify as a ‘northerner’ and how they classify or categorize others as ‘northerners’ (or not). This research will be done through unstructured interviews with approximately six non-aboriginal residents of Inuvik. Individuals will be chosen based on recommendations given by initial and subsequent interviewees. All of the interviews will be conducted in a suitable location amenable to the respondent and will be recorded using a digital recorder.
