Project Description: This research is a video-based effort to document knowledge of the caribou people about ecological change. The aim is to collect observations, impressions and concerns of the indigenous people about the caribou in form of short documentaries and communicate those voices to other communities, scientists and the general public. This project is being conducted as part of the CARMA - International Polar Year research on caribou and people. The final report would be produced in form of a documentary and is expected to be ready by November 2008 on the CARMA website free-of -charge. The method of data collection is by video-documenting interviews with community members. Elders, active hunters, women and youth will be the focus of these interviews. The fieldwork will be completed from July 09 until August 31, 2008 in Wekweti.
