Description du projet: This study is a component of the Dall Sheep, Grizzly Bear and Wolf Interactions in the Richardson Mountains (DSGBW) project to evaluate the effect of habitat features and climate on interactions between Dall sheep, grizzly bears and wolves in the Richardson Mountains. From March to April Gwich’in monitors from Aklavik and Fort McPherson (two per community) will be hired to conduct weekly snow surveys along a snowmobile route in the northern Richardson Mountains. Approximately 30 stations at 1km intervals will be visited to measure snow depth and quality at various elevations, habitats, and landscape types. Station locations will be marked with a GPS and snow depths measured with a stick. Reports will be produced for the public and funding agencies. Posters will be provided. Presentations will be given at community Renewable Resource Council meetings, and a webpage will be available with reports and updates. The study will be conducted Fieldwork will be conducted from March 07 to April 12, 2008 in the northern Richardson Mountains (67º 30' - 68º 30' N, 135º 30' - 137º W) centered on the Black Mountain Block (Goodenough Mountain), located approximately 20km SW of Aklavik, and 40km NW of Fort McPherson.
