Objective(s): The purpose of this research is to advance the understanding of how institutions manage the social impacts of development.
Project Description: The purpose of this research is to advance the understanding of how institutions manage the social impacts of development. This research examines the role of institutions in addressing the social impacts of the Mackenzie Gas Project. This research occurs within the boundaries communities of Inuvik and Yellowknife. The method involves voluntary, semi-structured and pre-arranged interviews, estimated to last about one hour each. Participants are members of institutions involved in some way with the Mackenzie Gas Project social impact management. The total number of interviews is dependent on the number of institutions or persons agreeing to participate in this study and estimated to number less than 25 people at the most. Interview data will be recorded on a digital recorder (only with permission of the participant), and handwritten notes. Both types of recording may be transferred or transcribed onto a personal computer by the researcher. The maximum length of the research period is estimated to be not more than three continuous weeks and likely much less. A summary of research findings will be provided to participants upon completion of this research. Fieldwork will be conducted from September 13 to December 31, 2007 at Inuvik and Yellowknife.
