Objective(s): The purpose of this project is to conduct debris clean up and further environmental assessment of the drilling sumps at the Taglu D-43 and G-33 well sites, as a follow-up to the 2004 limited investigation to confirm sump contents are appropriately contained. Furthermore, at the G-33 site, previously reported hydrocarbon stained soil will be removed and debris will be cleaned up at the Ivik J-26 well site in compliance with INAC's request.

Project Description: The purpose of this project is to conduct debris clean up and further environmental assessment of the drilling sumps at the Taglu D-43 and G-33 well sites, as a follow-up to the 2004 limited investigation to confirm sump contents are appropriately contained. Furthermore, at the G-33 site, previously reported hydrocarbon stained soil will be removed and debris will be cleaned up at the Ivik J-26 well site in compliance with INAC’s request. Proposed 2007 investigations include: -A site inspection that will include an inventory of visible or partly buried debris, piling accessibility, and the collection of additional qualitative information regarding vegetation, erosion and sump dimensions. -Surficial clean up that will include the removal of visible debris, if any, from the site. -Either cutting accessible wooden pilings as close to ground surface as practicable and removing piling debris from site or assessing alternate methods for onsite piling management (e.g. enhanced degradation). -Environmental assessment of the drilling sump area that includes the collection of surface water and shallow (less than 1.0 m below ground) and deep (1.0-4.0 m below ground) soil samples. In addition, sampling and removal of eight barrels and their contents that remain on the Taglu G-33 site will be conducted. Hydrocarbon impacted soils adjacent to fuel drums exceeding government clean up standards will also be excavated and transported off-site for proper disposal. The program for each site is tentatively scheduled for August, 2007 and will take approximately five days on each site to complete with an additional three to four days required for equipment mobilization / demobilization. Personnel and equipment will access the site by helicopter. Field personnel will be based in Inuvik or Tuktoyaktuk and will be mobilized to site daily. Fieldwork will be conducted from August 1 to 25, 2007 at the Taglu D-43 (69.3705 N, 134.9501 W), Taglu G-33 (69.3716 N, 134.8935 W) and Ivik J-26 (69.595 N, 134.34389 W) well sites, in the Mackenzie Delta region of the Northwest Territories (NWT).
