Project Description: The aim of this Master of Business Administration study is to ascertain the challenges or barriers that prevent the increase in Aboriginal employment recruitment and retention within Northwestel Inc. and other organizations with similar employment equity programs. A main objective of this research project is to develop an Aboriginal Recruitment and Retention Strategy for Northwestel Inc. Specifically, recommendations to recruit and retain Aboriginal employees in technical occupations will be developed through this project. The research will entail structured, face-to-face interviews with Hiring Managers and the Director of Human Resources at Northwestel Inc. There will also be interviews conducted with three Human Resource Managers at organizations in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories that have employment equity or affirmative action policies. Interview data will be aggregated so as to not identify any specific individual. The research will also be composed of examining secondary data sources from internal and external sources via a shared computer drive (internal) and from external organizations’ websites. The results of the study will be communicated to the Aurora Research Institute in a summary report, describing the research findings and activities undertaken during the research project. A full report will be provided to Northwestel Inc. The study will be conducted from February 6 to March 23, 2007 in Yellowknife.
