Objective(s): The objective of the study is to collect Traditional Knowledge (TK) relevant to the Mackenzie Gas Project (MGP).
Project Description: The objective of the study is to collect Traditional Knowledge (TK) relevant to the Mackenzie Gas Project (MGP). AMEC Earth & Environmental will coordinate the research. The Liidlii K’ue First Nation has been contracted to document Traditional Knowledge, including interviewing TK holders. Local researchers will be hired to collect and analyze data. A local translator will be hired to translate where needed. A Traditional Knowledge Working Group was previously established to guide study activities. The Working Group has been involved in determining what issues to address, determining boundaries and data gaps, recommending methods for community participation, identifying TK holders and reviewing maps and reports produced. The Working Group consists of representatives from the Liidlii Kue First Nation, Nogha Geomatics and the MGP/AMEC. The Working Group determined the types of information to be collected. Secondary sources have been used to identify relevant TK. The study will document data related to wildlife, birds, fisheries, vegetation, historical/cultural/spiritual sites, climate, soil conditions, hydrology and hydrogeology, human health, cumulative effects and other relevant social, economic and environmental issues. The community will be notified in advance of study teams arriving. As the results of the report are confidential, it will be up to the Liidlii K’ue First Nation to distribute information. Study methods will be publicly available in the documents for the MGP. The study will be conducted at Fort Simpson from January 31 to December 31, 2007 on the associated Liidlii K'ue First Nation traditional lands susceptible to potential effects from the Mackenzie Gas Project.
