Objective(s): The objectives of the Mackenzie Gas Project Traditional Knowledge (TK) studies are to provide information for the MGP to aid in project planning, design, mitigation and monitoring. The proposed TK study is a continuation of the work undertaken in 2003 and 2006 with the Fort Good Hope community.

Project Description: The research is led by Imperial Oil, and planned and executed by local community organizations and researchers. AMEC will coordinate the research with the Yamoga Land Corporation responsible for gathering the Traditional Knowledge (TK). Local researchers will be hired to undertake study tasks. A Traditional Knowledge Working Group will be established in Fort Good Hope to provide guidance, determine issues to be addressed, recommend methods for community participation, identify TK holders and study boundaries, and review maps and reports produced. The Working Group will be composed in consultation with community organizations in Fort Good Hope. TK and socioeconomic information will be identified, and any gaps in data determined. If necessary, interviews will be conducted to fill data gaps. The study will document data on wildlife, birds, fisheries, vegetation, historical/ cultural/ spiritual sites, climate, soil conditions, hydrology and hydrogeology, human health, cumulative effects and other relevant social, economic and environmental issues. Results of the TK report are confidential; therefore, it will be distributed by the Fort Good Hope community only if desired. Study methods will be publicly available with documents for the Mackenzie Gas Project. The study will be conducted from January 1 to December 31, 2007 in and around Fort Good Hope and associated traditional lands.
