Project Description: The objective of the project is to observe and document geological features in completing a reconnaissance of the surface geology of the Cambrian and Proteozoic sections in four areas the Central Mackenzie region: Mackenzie Mountains, Mount Clark, Black Water Lake and Cap Mountain. Geological information obtained from this field program will be used to refine Devon Canada's exploration model in the Central Mackenzie region. Field operations will take approximately eighteen days to complete. The project team will mobilize by helicopter daily from Norman Wells. The project will be initiated in the northern portion of the Mackenzie Mountains and work towards the south into other areas of interest. Project activities in the Mackenzie Mountains will take approximately two weeks to complete. Two days will be spent in Mount Clark and one day each in the Black Water Lake and Cap Mountain areas. Project activities will comprise making reconnaissance flights in the study locations to mark rocky outcrops that will later be assessed on the ground. While on the ground, the project team will compile photo and written records, measure characteristics of the rocky outcrops using hand-held instruments and take samples of rock (approximately 100-200 samples, weighing ~1kg). It is anticipated that the project team will land in four or five locations within each area. These specific locations cannot be determined until the helicopter reconnaissance has been completed. No remote fuelling will be required for this project. The observations and findings of the project team would be communicated to interested stakeholders and the Aurora Research Institute either verbally or in writing upon request. The field program will be in effect from July 7 to July 31, 2006 in the following areas: Mackenzie Mountains, Mount Clark, Black Water Lake and Cap Mountain (see attached map).
