Project Description: In view of Peregrine Diamonds Ltd.’s move to advance the DO-27 kimberlite pipe of the WO Diamond Project to the pre-feasibility assessment phase, this project is proposed to collect baseline data that would contribute to an Environmental Assessment in subsequent years. Gartner Lee Ltd has been contracted to undertake field sampling, which will consist of examining surface water quality; hydrology; fisheries and aquatic organisms. Field staff will access the study area via plane from Yellowknife. Sample locations will be access either by foot, helicopter or boat. Sampling will include water quality sampling in streams and lakes, spring and regular stream discharge, fish habitat, populations and health studies, primary and secondary producer sampling, and fall fish spawning surveys. Anticipated fish species include: lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush), Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus), whitefish (Coregonus sp., Propsopium sp.), northern pike (Esox lucius), burbot (Lota lota), sculpin (Cottus sp.), ninespine stickleback (Pungitius pungitius) and minnows. Sample sizes are unknown. A portion of each species caught will be lethally sampled to collect various structures. The results of the study will be communicated through submission of plain language reports to the Aurora Institute and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. The study will be conducted from July 4 to September 30, 2006 at the DO-27 and DO-18 kimberlite pipes (previously known as the Tli Kwi Cho pipes) and exploration camp (300 km NNE of Yellowknife and 23 km SE of the Diavik Diamond Mine).
