Project Description: This project consists of conducting a series of workshops with community governments and residents in the Northwest Territories on the topic of climate change. The two-day workshop in Deline, the last workshop in this series, is aimed at identifying existing and potential regional impacts, determining possible adaptive strategies to deal with climate change impacts, discovering areas for further research, and increasing general knowledge and awareness of climate change. The workshop will be conducted using a popular education approach, which entails informal presentations, group discussions and brainstorming activities. Notes from the workshop will be returned to participants for their review before a final report is prepared. To increase knowledge and awareness, and help communities anticipate and prepare for climate change impacts, a summary document containing the results from all workshops will be produced and distributed to all Northwest Territories communities, including Aboriginal, territorial and federal governments. Ultimately, the results from all workshops held in the Northwest Territories will generate information that will contribute to the development of a territorial climate change adaptation strategy. The study will be conducted within the municipal bounds of Deline from March 21-22, 2006.
