Objective(s): The purpose of this fieldwork is to obtain geotechnical and surficial geological information with respect to subsurface conditions at the site by drilling up to 69 boreholes to depths ranging from 16 to 50 metres. The specific objectives of the program are to characterize subsurface soil and ice conditions; delineate the thickness of the active layer and any interfaces between frozen and unfrozen ground; collect undisturbed samples of both frozen and unfrozen ground; obtain ground temperature data and install ground temperature monitoring equipment; and obtain data on drill penetration rates in various subsurface conditions. The information will be used to design and construct the foundations for buildings, structures and facilities including proposed locations for well pads, pipeline routes, an on-land Gas Conditioning Facility (GCF), and a barge-mounted GCF, as well as determining the feasibility of directionally drilling the Kumak Channel crossing.
