Objective(s): BHP Billiton has retained Rescan Environmental Services Ltd. to conduct a baseline aquatic and fisheries survey of lakes near the Fox Pit in the Koala Watershed on the EKATI claim block. At present there is no comprehensive baseline aquatic data for any of these lakes or any information on the number of fish species or their relative abundance. This baseline program is designed to detect any undesirable changes in the water and/or aquatic life around the waste rock area. Data obtained from the fieldwork will provide information to assess potential effects that mining may have on the aquatic environment within these aquatic waterbodies. To properly assess effects, data that will be collected includes: water quality, physical limnology, phytoplankton, zooplankton, benthos, and physical fish characteristics.
