Objective(s): What is the real experience of youth living in the Canadian North? How can we see a true reflection of their daily lives? How can health care providers gain a clearer understanding of their feelings, ideas, and viewpoints in order to reach out to this special population? The purpose of this research is to produce a 10 minute documentary video that offers an intimate portrait of youth living in Inuvik. The goal is to help health care providers gain a better understanding of youth in order to provide more comprehensive health care. The specific objectives are; 1) to assist Inuvik youth in expressing their own realities; 2) to sensitize health professionals to the feelings, ideas, needs and desires of youth; 3) to raise awareness of the issues and concerns identified by youth; 4) to develop a video educational tool for health professionals serving youth in Northern communities; and 5) to inform the public who may be mislead by stereotypes of Inuit youth in the North.
