Objective(s): This research is for an M.Sc. project focused on defining the granites within the Wecho River area and is in conjunction with the Wecho River Mapping Project. Different granite suites will be sampled throughout the map area and brought back for trace element and isotopic geochemistry as well as geochronology. This data will be used to better define the age and petrogenesis of the different plutonic suites in the Wecho River area, as well as delineate the extent of Mesoarchean basement in the southwestern Slave Province. Previous work in the project area is limited to primitive mapping, and no geochemical work has been done at all, making this project unique as well as important to the understanding of the Slave Province.
