Objective(s): The Expansion Project proposes to supply power to the Snap Lake, Gahcho Kue, Diavik and EKATI mine sites by expanding the existing infrastructure at the facilities on the Taltson River at Twin Gorges and at Nonacho Lake. Studies characterizing baseline environmental conditions are required prior to the implementation of the Expansion Project. These were initiated in 2003 and will continue in 2004. This work will allow Rescan Environmental Services Ltd. to assess the possible effects of expanding the Taltson Hydro Project. To properly assess effects, data is required from the following areas; hydrology and ice, water and sediment quality, aquatic ecology, fish and fish habitat, wildlife and wildlife habitat, plants and plant communities, terrain, geology and soils, meteorology, archaeology, traditional knowledge, and socio-economics. Community consultation will also be required.
