Objective(s): This research is designed to aid local health research capacity building and ongoing community development efforts leading to renewed local political autonomy. The project involves five interlinked health, research and dissemination issues that have been given priority by the people of Deline in conjunction with local commmunity researchers. These issues are; 1) contribute to community defined health research objectives; 2) describe Dene concepts and models of health; 3) develop locally relevant indicators and potential measures of health and wellness; 4) document Dene ethno-botanical/ethno-medical knowledge and practice; and 5) investigate innovative research dissemination strategies and create knowledge translation materials for use within the community with a specific emphasis on intergenerational knowledge transfer enhancement. The community-research team will conduct qualitative, ethnographic and ethno-medical research that examines Sahtuo'ine concepts of health, healing traditions, and their integration into planning, education and policy environments.
