Objective(s): The purpose of the research is to develop a set of recommendations for management practitioners, which will improve resource management decisions within co-management regimes. These recommendations will be based on the field-testing of a methodology designed specifically to evaluate the success and effectiveness of the co-management process of Renewable Resource board in the Sahtu Land Claim region. The three main objectives are 1) develop criteria that can be used to assess co-management processes in three specific areas of social transformation such as information sharing and the establishment of a common language, resource management outcomes and effectiveness and fairness in the decision making process; 2) conduct an in-depth analysis of the Sahtu co-management regime in terms of its management strategy, the manner in which policy is formulated and the role participants play in the process; 3) utilizing the information gained from in-depth analysis, apply the criteria to the Board in an attempt to further develop the overall evaluation process, provide recommendations and insight to the co-management board, based on information gained from the evaluation and provide recommendations to resource management practitioners and academics on a framework for evaluating co-management regimes.
