Objective(s): This is the first part of a planned review of the circumpolar butterfly genus Erebia. Previous comprehensive work on the genus (Warren, BCS, 1936, Monograph of the genus Erebia) is now long out of date. Since then, approximately 250 Erebia papers have been published worldwide. This fieldwork is part of study which will be continued in Asia and Europe.
