Project Description: The Gwich'in Renewable Resource Board (GRRB) is working with the Department of Resources, Wildlife and Economic Development (DRWED) and Gwich'in Tribal Council (GTC) to develop a forest management plan for the Gwich'in Settlement Area. In order to manage the forests sustainably, we must have a good understanding of how fast trees grow and how forests regenerate after disturbances (particularly wildfire and timber cutting). The 'Regeneration and Productivity' project will provide basic information about these processes. Research sites will be accessed by road, boat, and helicopter. Small teams will measure and core sample white spruce, black spruce, poplar, and birch trees.
