Objective(s): The overall goal of this project is to collect a variety of soil samples from easily accessed locations in the NWT. The samples will be taken to the University of Arizona where the microscopic organisms living in the soil, will be isolated and examined to determine if any organism or component of an organism exhibits anticancer properties.

Project Description: The overall goal of this project is to collect a variety of soil samples from easily accessed locations in the NWT. Small soil and mud samples will be taken along NWT highways 1,3, and 7 during the late summer. All travel will be on highways, with actual collections made on foot. Soil samples will consist of only a few grams of material at each location. The samples will be taken to the University of Arizona where the microscopic organisms living in the soil, will be isolated and examined to determine if any organism or component of an organism exhibits anticancer properties.
