Objectif(s): The purpose of the study is to incorporate Gwich'in traditional knowledge about wildlife into a knowledge support system. Through the Gwich'in Environmental Knowledge Project, operated by the Gwich'in Renewable Resource Board, data was collected from elders throughout the settlement area as regarded their knowledge of a select number of wildlife species. The project will involve the design of a computerized system to make that knowledge more easily accessible to Gwich'in resource managers, community members and youth. The system will remain with the Gwich'in to be maintained and updated.
Description du projet: From May through August, the researcher will be conducting her research in Inuvik at the offices of the Gwich'in Renewable Resource Board. Work will primarily be focused toward representing traditional knowledge in a case-based reasoning software tool. All data used will be from the Gwich'in Renewable Resource Board files. No new data will be collected.
