Objective(s): Examine aging, adult development, and intergenerational family dynamics in the community of Holman. Focus specifically on the attitudes toward and significance of aging in light of the rapid social changes that Copper Inuit have experienced during the past 30-35 years, the material position of aged Inuit (age 50 and over), and the importance of the aged, both economically and symbolically, to young adult Inuit in the community.

Project Description: Research will be conducted in Holman from January 1 through December31, 1997. Data will be collected through a series of survey and questionnaire procedures, which will include the following: 1) a household census interview, 2) health and functionality interviews, 3) an age interview 4) life history interviews, and 5) a biweekly hunting/fishing/food sharing survey. It is expected that the research will involve approximately 60 Inuit in the community over age 20.
