Objective(s): The institute for Marine Bioscience of the National Research Council of Canada is conducting research on chemical constituents of marine organisms, and is interested in surveying Arctic invertebrates and algae. WestWind SeaLab Supplies has been asked to make a representative collection of organisms for this purpose. The Husky Lakes represent the easiest access to deeper water organisms in this portion of the Arctic, as well as providing a good variety of salinities.

Project Description: The researchers propose to collect invertebrates, algae and microorganisms with the use of SCUBA, plankton nets, bottom dredges, and intertidal collection. These samples will be sorted and frozen for later analysis in Halifax. The researchers wish to collect samples in about 25 sites, ranging from the southern tip of Liverpool Bay to south of Saunatuk. All collections will take place from small boats, with the assistance of local guides.
