Objective(s): I hope to obtain through interviews more detailed information on the lives of Inuit autobiographers Alice French and Anthony Apakark Thrasher. I want to investigate the material and cultural conditions of their lives in order to more fully explore their works in my thesis on Inuit autobiography. I would also like to obtain the viewpoints of non-Inuit in the area.

Project Description: I would like to obtain information about the context from which Inuit autobiographers wrote. Therefore I wish to tape interviews with the relatives and acquaintances of French and Thrasher. I also wish to interview outsiders who have settled in the North, to provide me with more material to critique stereotypical views of the North and Inuit, a main thrust of my thesis.
