Objectif(s): Study to evaluate how the changing legislation's, policy and procedures for water management provide for the sustainable utilisation of the resource. The focus will be on the NWT Waters Act, provisions in the Gwich'in and Sahtu Comprehensive Land Claims Agreements, and the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act. Specific aspects to be considered include: a) protection of water quality, b) integrated water resource management and c) partnerships. Study results are to be published in the Canadian Water Resources Association edited book entitled "Practising Sustainable Water Management: Canadian and International Experience".

Description du projet: This study is to evaluate how the changing legislation, policy and procedures for water management provides for the sustainable utilisation of the resource. This will involve informal unstructured interviews as the primary data source. Queries will be directed to a description of the institutional arrangements, and the evaluation of criteria. An analysis of pertinent newspaper articles, government documents and files and academic literature will complement the interviews. Study results are to be published in the Canadian Water Resources Association edited book entitled "Practising Sustainable Water Management: Canadian and International Experience".
