Objective(s): Evaluation of level of success of existing planning and housing practice for Native communities in the western portion of the NWT, with emphasis on relationship between land use/ site planning and social, cultural and environmental factors. Study will review previous and current planning and housing practice and consult with the people and groups who have been involved as well as the current residents to determine what has worked, what has not, and why.

Project Description: Will conduct community consultation workshops in the 4 case study communities: Rae-Edzo, Snare Lake, Ft. Resolution and Kakisa. The workshops will open to the entire community. Data collection will be by open meeting discussion, individual interviews and interactive activity stations. The study is an evaluation of the level of success of existing planning and housing practice for native communities. Recommendations and alternatives will be put forward to provide groundwork for future community developments.
