Objective(s): The research project will attempt to determine, for the Fish Creek overwintering site, the overall amount of the habitat available to overwintering charr and locate and document the primary overwintering pools. Knowledge about the winter flow and temperature regimes of the site at Fish Creek and the effect of air temperature on the availability of overwintering habitat will permit managers to better predict environmentally caused fluctuations in the populations and provide fishery (harvest) recommendations based on this.
Project Description: Study will examine the location and extent of suitable overwintering habitat for charr in Rat River. Another objective is to document the location of spring upwellings at the overwintering site on Fish Creek. Knowledge of winter flow and temperature regimes of the spring and the effect of air temperature on the availability of overwintering habitat will provide managers with some ability to predict environmentally caused fluctuations in the populations.
