Objective(s): Study of the researcher's previous (1990) collection shows that high-latitude faunas lack some of the expected elements of more thoroughly collected mid-latitudes faunas. Further collection will help evaluate the significance of the differences. Also, some anomolous occurances of much younger fossils occur with the Cretaceous fauna. Careful measurement of geologic sections may help explain how this has occured.

Project Description: The researchers will collect specimens of fossil molluscs exposed in critical areas. This involves simply breaking rocks loose from their location. No excavation deeper than 1 foot is contemplated. Localities will be marked on topographic maps and measurements of sections exposed in river banks will be made. Analysis will be completed in California. Significant specimens will be returned to the Science Institute or the National Museum in Ottawa.
