Objective(s): To better understand and predict the weather in the Beaufort Sea and surrounding areas of the Arctic; and to better understand the implications of mesoscale (small scale) weather systems on the regional climate of the western Arctic.

Project Description: Researchers will collect data by installing portable doppler radar at Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk, using weather balloons at Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk, using the National Research Council Convair 580 aircraft to fly tracks through storms and to release dropsondes, using existing weather observing sites and satellite pictures. The objectives of this study is to better understand and predict weather and the implications of small scale weather systems on the W. Arctic climate.
