Objective(s): To review bibliographic, linguistic and audiovisual materials available in Iqaluit to prepare courses on the Canadian Arctic at SUNY Buffalo; and to continue a long-term study of Baffin Island history begun in 1967 and to assess the feasibility of future work in Pangnirtung on community change.

Project Description: The research will involve 2-3 weeks of library and museum study in Iqaluit. The researcher will review books, articles and reports on the history of Baffin Island and the Arctic in order to help her teaching at SUNY Buffalo and to write a history of Baffin Island. During a one-week visit to Pangnirtung the researcher will visit families and take notes on changes since 1974 when the researcher last studied there.
