Objective(s): To add to an existing survey of stream macroalgae from 125 stream segments and 15 locations in tundra regions of North America; to collect live subsamples for light and electron microscopic examination; and to freeze subsamples for DNA sequence analysis.

Project Description: Microscopic algae in tundra streams constitute the base of food chains in these habitats yet they are poorly studied. Their composition appears to be an extension of a portion of the temperate flora. The research will continue a survey of these species and an examination of their physiological adaptations to such a stressful habitat.
