Objective(s): To collect fossils for taxonomic study (primarily trilobites) and rocks for geochemical study (event stratigraphy). Geochemical laboratory techniques will include neutron activation analysis; mass spectrometry for isotope of C and O and negegative thermal ion mass spectrometry.

Project Description: Rock samples will be collected for processing in the lab. Some of these rocks will be processed for fossils (primarily silicified trilobites) which will be photographed and described for classification purposes. The data gathered will then be used for understanding the ancient (350-450 million years ago) ecology and the correlation of these rocks. Levels where there are extinctions followed by evolutionaly radiations will be sampled in detail.
