Objective(s): To document traditional ecological knowledge; to document the history of traditional ecological knowledge; to demonstrate the value of this in scientific research; to achieve recognition as a valued and important component of the scientific research process; to demonstrate the value of traditional methods of data collection as an empirical and scientific process; and to demonstrate the value of this in predictions of future natural and industrial environmental changes.
Project Description: The primary focus of this study will be on the older population (65 years and older). Data on traditional knowledge will be collected by interviews, survey questionnaire, and audio and video taping. Information gathered will be used to document the history of traditional ecological knowledge and to demonstrate the value of traditional ecological knowledge in scientific research and in predictions of environmental changes (natural and industrial).
