Objective(s): To look at the relationship between Inuit place names and the physical, biological, cultural and historical environments of chosen sites; to assess the degree to which place names collected in the Keewatin Nuna-top database are known and utilized by the people of Repulse Bay; to determine how knowledge of this information differs among people of different age groups, sex and community role.
Project Description: Sites will be selected in the Repulse Bay area whose Inuit place names reflect the biological, physical or cultural/historical significance of the locations. Through visits to these sites and consultation with community members, I will determine the relationship between place names and environmental conditions. Sites will be selected using the Keewatin Nuna-top database of place names.
