Objective(s): To collect blood and other tissues from arctic fishes; to measure enzyme levels in arctic fishes and invertebrates; to measure mitochondrial properties of arctic fishes and invertebrates.
Project Description: The researchers are interested in understanding how prolonged cold conditions and reduced food availability in winter affect char. Sea-run char must increase their fat levels so that they have enough energy stored for overwintering and reproduction. Research activities will also include collecting fish and invertebrate specimens to make comparisons about cold tolerance and diet of these specimens and similar animals from warmer climates.
