Objective(s): To place new constraints on the geological evolution of the Canadian Arctic Islands; to determine the time at which rock units were heated relative to their deformation; to evaluate the effects of igneous activity on the thermal history of the region. The results will contribute to our understanding of how rock units in the Arctic Islands responded to the major tectonic processes that influenced the development of the region.
Project Description: Rock samples will be collected in order to examine their structure and composition. Tests conducted on these samples will provide information about how these rocks were formed and the maximum temperatures to which these rocks were heated. These tests, conducted at Dalhousie University, will help to determine the geological history of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.
