Objective(s): To assess stable isotope fractionation within a glacial system; to test models explaining ice-marginal overriding of debris entrainment patterns in a glacier; to verify models of medium-scale surface roughness of glacier and cap ice derived from Synthetic Aperture Radar; to map recent glacier recession; to study local hydrology, sedimentology and stratigraphy; to study insect abundance, distribution and ecology; to survey plants at selected sites; to examine climatic and environmental change using fossil chironomids as indicators; to investigate radio-wave propagation.
Project Description: The researchers will conduct a variety of research activities at the study site. Projects include surveys of insects and plants, monitoring glacier movements, collecting data about the area's rocks and soils, assessing changes in the area's climate and environment (using fossils of microscopic marine organisms, chironomids, as indicators), and investigating radio-wave propagation.
