Objective(s): To assess the impact of television in the community of Lutsel K'e, including impacts on social life, political activities and leadership, economic systems, social control, health, education, and traditional language and culture. Another important focus will be the identification of community concerns with television programming, including the extent to which residents are satisfied with current programs and whether or not they would like to see changes. The ultimate objective is to identify ways in which the CRTC can regulate television programming to better meet the needs of communities such as Lutsel K'e.
Project Description: The researcher will examine the impact of television on the community of Lutsel K'e. Information will be collected through the use of interviews with selected people, including elders, adults and youth. Discussions will also be held with school teachers, social and health workers, band council members and the RCMP. The research is being done in order to assess ways in which the CRTC can provide better television programming to a northern community.
