Objective(s): To monitor the effect of natural processes on the character and fate of crude oil on a low-energy course-sediment arctic shoreline near Cape Hatt; to assess near-shore and shoreline cleanup techniques of crude oil contamination.
Project Description: During the period of 1980-83, scientific investigations were conducted at Cape Hatt in order to assess the fate of spilled oil and its effects on the environment. In addition, data was collected to determine how effective the clean-up activities were in removing the oil from the environment. This short visit to the oil spill site is part of a long-term monitoring project that will continue to assess the fate of the oil as well as its impact on the local environment.
