Objective(s): To study the historical and contemporary contributions Inuit women make to their families' and communities' economy and quality of life. This study will include the importance of traditional and contemporary activities such as sewing and preparing food.
Project Description: This study is community-based: the researchers will work with the Baffin communities in order that the study meets the needs of each community as well as the region. The work will identify the formal and informal economic contributions Inuit women make. It will also help interested women establish sewing centres and develop marketing strategies. Both Elders and young women will be interviewed to record the importance of traditional and modern work.
